About the Role

The Vickers Before and After School Program Worker is responsible for providing quality childcare and implementing the delivery of a quality Program. They will be respectful of and work effectively with the children, parents and other staff. They will ensure that equipment and facilities are clean, safe and well maintained. They will report to the Program Supervisor.

Duties

Junior Program Workers: 

  • Refer any incidents and/or emergencies to senior program staff or the supervisor

  • Must be under the supervision of another senior staff member

  • Pay rate will be at the ‘Starting Step’


Duties

Supervise Children in the Before and After School Program

  • Supervise children’s play, ensuring their physical safety at all times

  • Introduce and lead a variety of activities for the children 

  • Prepare activity materials and set up the children’s environment

  • Establish routines and order 

  • Build children’s esteem and provide positive guidance

  • Provide a safe and healthy environment for children to feel comfortable

  • Implement positive discipline when required

  • Interact with the children in a way which conveys respect and nurturing

  • Clearly and effectively communicate in a manner that children understand 

  • Guide children’s behavior and social development

  • Handle incidents and emergencies


Deliver Before and After School Program

  • Collaborate with Program Supervisor to plan and implement a variety of experiences and activities to meet the physical, emotional, cognitive and social needs of the children in accordance with the Program philosophy

  • Prepare nutritious snacks and lunches

  • Ensure equipment and the facility are clean, well maintained and safe

  • Maintain open daily communication with families and act as a resource for parents 

  • Maintain confidentiality


Administration

  • Maintain open daily communication with Program Staff and Supervisor

  • Maintain current and accurate files and records such as attendance

  • Complete incident report forms as necessary

  • Be familiar with emergency procedures

  • Perform other duties as assigned by the Program Supervisor

  • Report to work on time, pay will be adjusted as to time you show up

  • Complete timesheets thoroughly and hand into Program Supervisor on designated day

  • Attend staff meetings

Requirements and Qualifications

  • Criminal Record Check if over age 17

  • Emergency First Aid and CPR: required to complete within 2 months of hiring

Salary Grid

Minimum Wage = $13.00 (10/01/22)


Junior Worker

Step 1 = $13.20

Step 2 = $13.45

Step 3 = $13.70


Program Worker

Step 1 = $14.20

Step 2 = $14.70

Step 3 = $15.20

Step 4 = $15.70

Step 5 = $16.20


Note: A step advancement may be granted annually utilizing a performance review process to be completed in January or February each year.
